Britney Spears has announced the loss of her baby
Britney Spears said Saturday on Instagram that her unexpected pregnancy, which she disclosed last month, had ended in miscarriage.
"It is with great regret that we must announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy," the 40-year-old singer said alongside her partner Sam Asghari in a joint message.
On April 11, Spears confirmed her pregnancy on Instagram, writing, "So I got a pregnancy test... and uhhhhh well... I am having a kid."
That revelation came five months after a Los Angeles judge ended Spears' father's conservatorship, which she said had blocked her from having a contraceptive IUD removed despite her desire for more children.
Spears and Asghari said on Saturday that they "will continue to attempt to extend our beautiful family... We politely request privacy during this tough time."
Spears stated in her pregnancy announcement that she would be keeping a low profile during the pregnancy to avoid photographers, and that she had previously suffered from perinatal depression, which she described as "absolutely horrific."
With her ex-husband Kevin Federline, she already has two teenage sons, Sean and Jayden.
In 2016, Asghari and Spears co-starred in a music video for her single "Slumber Party."
Spears has began referring to her 28-year-old lover as her "husband" after announcing their engagement late last year.
"Fatherhood is something I have always looked forward to and I don't take lightly," Asghari stated in a separate Instagram post at the time Spears announced she was pregnant. It is the most crucial task.
