In Windows 11 KB5012592 and Windows 10 KB5012599, keep an eye out for these issues |
Microsoft released two big cumulative updates as part of the April 2022 cumulative updates: Windows 11 KB5012592 and Windows 10 KB5012599. Because Windows 11 appears to be developed on top of Windows 10, the two versions feature identical bug fixes and improvements.
Unfortunately, not everyone is having a good time, especially those on Windows 11. The most recent versions, KB5012592 and KB5012599, include several bug fixes, stability improvements, an enhanced interface for Windows Search, and a few minor new features such as greater notification control, among other things.
It's no surprise that many people get these updates updated as soon as possible because they are obligatory security updates that install automatically. If you've already upgraded and it's not going as smoothly as you'd hoped, you're not alone — some users have experienced difficulty with the update installation, while others have noted performance concerns.
Issues with Windows 11 (KB5012592)
Known According to the official release notes, the new patch may cause recovery DVDs prepared with the Windows 7-era 'Backup and Restore' tool in Control Panel to fail to run. Fortunately, the flaw does not affect the operating system's contemporary recovery options, and no third-party backup or recovery software are known to be affected.
Users warned on Feedback Hub and Reddit that the update could fail to install with error codes like 0x800f081f, 0xc1900101, and 0x800f0988. Although these warning messages do not provide precise information, the tech giant has previously stated that some settings are not "patch-compliant" for a variety of reasons.
According to Microsoft's Update Connectivity data, machines should have a stable internet connection for at least two hours prior to the update and six hours afterward. This ensures that a Windows Update is sent to the device successfully, and it also applies to Windows 10.
"We discovered that devices that do not satisfy a specific amount of connected time are very unlikely to upgrade effectively," Microsoft added.
How to resolve installation issues with KB5012592
So, how can you resolve KB5012592 installation issues? In some circumstances, customers claim that a simple system reboot is sufficient to resolve Windows Update difficulties.
When clicking the Shutdown button, you can also hold down the 'Shift' key. Shift + Shutdown, for those unfamiliar, refers to a 'full Shutdown,' which compels the OS to terminate all apps and sign out all users. Hybrid shutdown or hibernation are also bypassed (a feature that retains certain data so the system can pick up from where you left).
Despite all of this, if one or more of your Windows 11 or Windows 10 PCs appears to be failing to update properly, you can reset Windows Update or go to the Microsoft Update Catalog.and manually install any updates by downloading the.msu package
Users have reported the following issues in Windows 11 April 2022 Update, in addition to Windows Update issues:
- 0xc0000022 is a bug that causes apps to fail to start. A server-side upgrade has resolved the issue.
- There were some performance concerns, as well as a strange fault where the cursor would jump over certain areas of the screen. A recent preview build has addressed this issue.
Issues with Windows 10 (KB5012599)
KB5012599 has the same problems, including a bug that causes the update to fail to install with the error code 0x800f0831. The cumulative update is downloaded correctly, but after a period of inactivity, it pauses at 'Installing 20%' and later jumps to 100%, according to users on a Microsoft forum.
Windows Update creates the 0x800f0831 error with a matching failed to install message after becoming stuck in the installation process.
"I've spent the last two hours attempting to fix this problem, including running the Windows Update Troubleshooter and a slew of other advice, but nothing works," one user wrote in the forum, and others concurred.
If you're having trouble using Windows Update and nothing seems to be working, you'll need to manually install the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog, as indicated above.
If you've already installed the update and are experiencing speed issues or game stuttering, you can manually delete it using Command Prompt or Settings.
