Funeral prayers of mother of Pakistan Balqis Edhi
Funeral prayers are being offered at Memon Masjid Kharadar for Bilqis Edhi, widow of Abdul Sattar Edhi, Mohsin of sad humanity, Mother of Pakistan.
Balqis Edhi will be buried with official honors at Mewa Shah Cemetery.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Information Minister Saeed Ghani, IG Sindh Mushtaq Mehr, Leader PP Waqar Mehdi and Manzoor are also present in the funeral prayer.
The Sindh Chief Minister said that the Sindh government was mourning the death of Bilqis Edhi for one day and her services to humanity would always be remembered.
It may be recalled that Balqis Edhi, co-head of Edhi Foundation, a well-known welfare organization of Pakistan, died at the age of 74 in a private hospital in Karachi where she had been undergoing treatment for a month.
According to the spokesperson of Edhi Foundation, Balqis Edhi was suffering from heart disease and other ailments. She had suffered a heart attack two days before Ramadan and since then she has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Stadium Road.
She spent her entire life with her great husband Abdul Sattar Al Sattar Edhi in the service of suffering humanity.
After the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi, the head of Pakistan's largest social organization, Balqis Edhi became the chairperson of the foundation.
She was born on August 14, 1947 in Bantuwa, Gujarat, India and then migrated with her family to Karachi.
She married Abdul Sattar Edhi in 1966 and the 50-year friendship lasted till Edhi's death in 2016.
He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan for his outstanding social services. He was also awarded the Lenin Peace Prize by the Russian government.
He has left Faisal Edhi, Kabra Edhi, Kitab Edhi and Almas Edhi among the mourners.
Expressing deep sorrow over the demise of Balqis Edhi, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, President Dr Arif Ali and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah paid homage to her and prayed for her forgiveness.
